When we met Kaylie, her nurse told us she LOVED the Astros. She had just been diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma and we knew we had to do something BIG for her. Our volunteers brought Kaylie all our Astros gear while we planned an unforgettable day with the Astros Foundation and Phil & Katelynn Maton.

“Kaylie is a very social and athletic child. She has played softball since she was 4 years old. She had a lateral knee release on July 20th and was recovering well for the first week and a half. Then, she started having pain in her right thigh and could hardly walk. We were told it was normal to see the muscle pains after surgery, and she was put into physical therapy. After one visit to physical therapy, I knew something was wrong. I took her to the ER, where they discovered the mass on her right femur. Kaylie was transported by ambulance to TCH, where X-rays and scans confirmed our worst fears. We were told our daughter had Ewing’s Sarcoma. She spent 13 days in the hospital. The hardest part was telling our child and discussing treatments. No one wants to have those discussions with their child. While we were in the hospital, BIG Love provided snacks and lunches. We got the biggest surprise 2 days before we left the hospital. Kaylie was not feeling the best because she had just received her first round of chemotherapy. We weren’t sure what was happening when everyone entered the room. They told Kaylie she was going to batting practice, a shopping spree, and watching the Astros play with BIG Love, the Astros Foundation, and Phil & Katelynn Maton. She was SO excited. That night meant so much to her and one she’ll never forget. BIG Love is an organization that has become close to our family.” – Kaylie’s mom
